Since I missed last month's TBR Challenge, I was determined to not miss this one. But of course, spring is crazy busy what with Easter AND Oldest's birthday on the same weekend. Which is why I'm squeaking this review in at the very last few hours of TBR Day. I have no idea when I purchased this; it was in the digital TBR.
A SEAL's Seduction did a much better job skirting my usual issues with Romantic Suspense than most of the books I've tried recently. I liked that the conflict was multi-layered and believable. I liked the characters, even the secondary ones. I really liked that the "sex in dangerous situations" was kept to a minimum although I admittedly skimmed them because as is usual with this line, there are just too many for my personal taste.
I'm not familiar enough with the military to gauge how accurate that part of the story is, but nothing stuck out as obviously off. It helped that Alexia is not your typical damsel in distress. She's a strong, confident woman who knows what she wants. And when she (spoiler) gets put into peril, she reacts with both guts and smarts: ie she keeps her composure but also listens to what the professionals tell her to do.
There's tons of emotional conflict here. Far more than any kind of physical conflict. I'm really impressed that so much put into such a small page count. It didn't feel crowded or rushed except for a few small areas. I'm sort of over the SEAL stories, but this one made me glad I read it anyway. The only thing I would change was the pacing of the captivity/rescue portion of the book. In the entire book, that was the only thing that felt rushed or truncated.
My Grade: B
Navy SEAL Blake Landon (aka "Boy Scout") knows the rule book inside and out. Checked. Rechecked. But when a mission ends badly, his entire team is ordered on leave. And that's when Blake sees the tall redhead whose dark eyes suggest that the rules—especially those in bed—are made to be broken.
Scientist Alexia Lane has sex on the brain—partly for work, but mostly because she needs a man who makes her girly parts do the happy dance. Her only no-no? No military dudes. But Blake's rockin' bod promises delicious pleasures, and Alexia is halfway to sexual Nirvana before she can find out he's actually a Navy SEAL.
And where one rule is broken, more are sure to follow….
