Victoria Dahl writes powerful books. Sometimes they click with me and sometimes they don't. I have DNF'd as many books as I've loved, so I never know which it will be when I start one. This time, I really liked everything about this book.

Although all Dahl heroines are more than a little bit naughty, this one was different from anything else I've read by this author. She was two people: her public persona reminiscent of the stereotypical librarian, and her private love of thrills and apologetically dirty sex.

Alex is back in town at the urging of his older brother and in spite of the bad memories and family drama that the town holds for him. Despite assurances from his brother that his mother is more stable than she was during his childhood, he returns to find that she is becoming even more unhinged. The drama he expected. But not the scorching chemistry and emotional connection like the one that blindsides him with Sophie.

What's most romantic to me about this book is the fact that Alex is the only man to see past her façade. He sees who she is inside and appeals directly to the wild side that no one in the rest of the town can even perceive. What he doesn't realize until he's already involved is that Sophie is part of the family that shares a scandalous past with his own.

My only real complaint about this book concerns the lack of details about the accident and death of their wayward parents. I'm sure this was explained in a previous book, but since I hadn't read the prior books, the details remained fuzzy. It's barely there backstory, and I'd have preferred a little more meat.

This was definitely a hit for me: hot, smart, and knock-you-flat emotional.

 My Grade: B+

The Blurb:

A good reason to be bad…

Librarian Sophie Heyer has walked the straight and narrow her entire life to make up for her mother's mistakes. But in tiny Jackson Hole, Wyoming, juicy gossip doesn't just fade away. Falling hard for the sexiest biker who's ever ridden into town would undo everything she's worked for. And to add insult to injury, the alluring stranger is none other than Alex Bishop—the son of the man Sophie's mother abandoned her family for. He may be temptation on wheels, but Sophie's not looking for trouble!

Maybe Sophie's buttoned-up facade fools some, but Alex knows a naughty smile when he sees one. Despite their parents' checkered pasts, he's willing to take some risks to find out the truth about the town librarian. He figures a little fling might be just the ticket to get his mind off his own family drama. But what he finds underneath Sophie's prim demeanor might change his world in ways he never expected.
